  Child Development     Nutrition Program

 Our Mission

Child Development Nutrition Program's mission is to provide children and families in underserved communities with the necessary resources and support to achieve a healthier lifestyle and better quality of life.

With this mission in mind, we have designed a program that will impact and improve the lives of children and families in underserved communities. These communities often face inequalities and obstacles when it comes to health, education, opportunities and resources. When children are not provided with the proper nutrition, they are more likely to suffer in different areas of their development. Children in low income communities are less likely to have a well-balanced diet, less physical activity & get sick more often, compared to children in high-income communities.   This then leads to other health issues during childhood and into their adulthood, as stated by the American Heart Journal 163(5), 836-845, 2012. The percentage of overweight/obese children by community varies from 96% to 42.8%. As income decreases, the percentage of overweight children increases, “The prevalence of overweight/obese children rise in communities with lower household income. Children residing in lower income communities exhibit poorer dietary and physical activity behaviors, which affect obesity”.

According to the LA County Health Report, obesity-related chronic illnesses continue to rank among the top ten leading causes of premature death, including heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. In the Los Angeles county, the obesity rate for adults is at 29.4 percent and the second highest for school-age children at 27.5 percent.

Child Development Nutrition Program works hard in providing families and early education programs with resources, activities,  and access to fresh fruits and vegetables. We hope our efforts will decrease food insecurity, obesity and health related disparities that are all too common  in low income communities.

We believe in taking action with urgency in order to raise public awareness about some of the most pressing issues facing our communities.

Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a measurable difference in the lives of children and families!
